The latest report on government-supported loan modifications showed the biggest gain in active modifications in more than a year.
The number of active permanent modifications that were processed through the Home Affordable Modification Program was 888,043 in June.
One month earlier, 878,753 HAMP loan modifications were active, while the total was 818,803 a year earlier.
The increase of 9,290 during June was bigger than the 8,715 gain in May and the 8,360 increase in June 2012.
In fact, the number of active HAMPs jumped more than in any month since March 2012, when the gain was 12,139.
There were 74,292 active HAMPs at Nationstar Mortgage LLC as of June 30, giving it a gain of 6,115 — the biggest of any lender.
Wells Fargo Bank, N.A.’s, gain of 1,469 was next, putting its active total at 130,538.
No. 3 Select Portfolio Servicing increased its active modifications by 1,218 to 27,776.
The gain at JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., was 736, and OneWest Bank had a 193 gain.
Bank of America, N.A., turned in the worst performance with a loss of 7,101 active HAMPs in June. BofA had 92,008 active loan modifications.
Ocwen Financial Corp. and CitiMortgage Inc. each also had losses of 4,190 and 1,455, respectively.
