The collective mortgage servicing portfolio of loans modified through the government’s program grew by nearly 1 percent in the latest monthly housing report.
There were 831,661 active permanent modifications that were processed through the Home Affordable Modification Program as of Aug. 31, the Department of the Treasury reported.
That was 6,183 more than were active as of July 31.
A month earlier, the gain was 6,675, while the number jumped by 15,522 in August 2011.
The most recent activity was helped by JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., which increased active HAMPs by 2,022 during August. Chase had 140,345 active permanent modifications in place as of Aug. 31.
No. 2 Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., expanded its portfolio of active HAMPs by 1,900 to 116,494 active permanent modifications.
Ocwen Loan Servicing pushed its active modifications up by 647, OneWest Bank grew by 641 and GMAC lifted its HAMP servicing portfolio by 296.
