Mortgage Daily

The mortgage industry has lost a veteran journalist who chronicled the highs and lows of subprime lending and who had reported for Mortgage Daily.

Neil J. Morse earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Bridgeport. He additionally earned a master’s in communications from Fairfield University, where he also was an adjunct faculty member for several years.

Morse got his start as a reporter for the mortgage industry in the 1990’s.

In addition to his work published at Mortgage Daily, he was a regular contributor at Mortgage Banking Magazine and has also reported for Equity Magazine, InmanNews and National Mortgage News.

Morse was fixture at conferences held by the now-defunct subprime trade group National Home Equity Mortgage Association — or NHEMA. He also frequently attended Mortgage Bankers Association events.

He founded Morse Communications in 2000. The Newtown, Conn.-based firm provided editorial and marketing communications services.

Recently, Morse was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. The disease took his life on Friday, April 27, according to an obituary in The News Times.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan Morse; his son, Joshua Paul Morse; his daughter, Jessica Gerrish; and grandson, Jacob Gerrish.
