Michigan’s largest mortgage lender has entered into an exclusive endorsement agreement with one of the Detroit Pistons players suspended over the recent brawl with fans.
Rock Financial announced last week it cut the deal with point guard Chauncey Billups, the MVP of the 2004 NBA Finals. Not only will Billups be a spokesman for the 2,200-employee company, but he is also a client. “I’ve gotten to know the people at Rock Financial on a personal level,” Billups said in a press release Nov. 18. “They are more than the team’s sponsor to me, they also helped me buy my home.” He added that the Livonia, Mich.-based lender “made it possible for thousands of local youth to attend Pistons games and our basketball clinics.” As part of the agreement, Billups and Rock Financial will participate in various community outreach programs — including giving away more than 7,000 tickets to underserved youth in the Detroit area and appearances at Detroit public schools. Rock Financial will also make a donation to Billup’s basketball camps. In return, Billups will be featured in traditional marketing elements such as radio and television spots and outdoor advertisements.
