A number of mortgage firms have recently been recruiting new employees, and some of them have been ranked among the best employers in their respective locations.
In Santa Rosa County, Fla., Navy Federal Credit Union is considering expanding its office space by 40,000 square feet in a move that will accommodate an additional 300 to 400 employees, the Northwest Florida Daily News reported. The jobs would be just for two or more years while Navy completes development of a much larger, permanent facility in Escambia County.
Navy FCU recently reported to Mortgage Daily that it had 916 mortgage employees as of June 30. Company-wide headcount is around 3,000.

Headcount at Fairway Independent Mortgage Corp. has reached 1,700 employees, an Aug. 18 announcement indicated. The Sun Prairie, Wis.-based firm recently reported that total staffing was just 1,500.
Bay Bancorp Inc. hopes to grow its mortgage division, which is being renamed Bay Bank Mortgage, from 27 people to 57, according to a story in the Baltimore Business Journal. The Baltimore-based company, which has already added eight new employees, originated around $150 million last year.

St. Louis-based Cornerstone Mortgage Inc. recently announced that it has been ranked by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as one of the Top Places to Work in the St. Louis region for three consecutive years. Cornerstone claims it was the only mortgage banker on the list all three years.
Cornerstone said its staffing increased from 141 employees at the time of the survey to 165 as of July 1. Annual production is at $900 million.

More than 20 new employees have been hired in Pennsylvania during recent months, Mortgage Network Inc. announced last month. The new recruits include three executive managers.

Wells Fargo & Co. increased its top commission rate for loan originators on July 1 to 70 basis points from 62 BPS as part of an effort to boost purchase production, Bloomberg reported. Lower tier payout rates were also lifted.
