Following several months of growth, new business declined at Radian Guaranty Inc. Delinquency, however, continued to show improvement.
In a monthly summary of operational performance, Radian said it wrote $3.59 billion in primary new insurance during August.
Business slipped from the previous month, when new policies written totaled $3.9 billion and had been higher for five consecutive months.
Volume tumbled from $4.67 billion in primary new insurance that was written in August 2013.
During the eight months ended Aug. 31, the Philadelphia-based company has written $23.60 billion in new insurance.
Radian said that its primary delinquent inventory finished last month at 47,364 loans. Based on the oldest available data, the number of delinquent loans was at its lowest level since at least 2009.
The delinquent count dipped from 47,870 a month earlier and slid from 65,427 a year earlier.
Using an estimated 849,355 in total outstanding policies, the delinquency rate was 5.576 percent in August.
Delinquency was lower than an estimated 5.649 percent in July, far better than an estimated 7.942 percent in August 2013 and sits at its lowest level since 2007.
